The Weyland Family
The following chronicles the family behind the Weyland Corporation.
Bishop Weyland (1796-1866)
Bishop Weyland was born on August 12th, 1796, in England. Bishop was an avid natural philosopher raised in an Anglican environment, who constantly expressed a strong desire to escape and find freedom from the pain and agony of this earthly realm and ascend to "the highest heavens" and join the angelic beings in serving as guardians of humanity and usher in a utopian age.
However, Bishop realized that this could not be achieved by him alone during his lifetime on account of his mortal nature, and thus sought a long-term solution to the problem through procreation. This led to Bishop marrying Mary Desborough, and they conceived a son whom they named David Bishop Weyland, inspired by the biblical character King David, intending him to take the lead and carry on Bishop's visionary mission into the future. On September 20th, 1857, a second child, a daughter named Elizabeth, died at birth. Bishop passed away from sickness in his home on December 26th, 1866.
David Bishop Weyland (1855-1915)
David Bishop Weyland was born to Bishop and Mary Weyland on November 22nd, 1855, in England. Following in the footsteps of his father, he became passionate for studying philosophy and theology, and took pride in the idea of carrying on and exceeding his father's vision for the future. By 1878, he married Alice Williams and moved to the United States for a better life. They settled down in West Virginia and concerived three children, the older Edward Bishop Weyland, the younger Elizabeth Weyland, and the youngest Robert Bishop Weyland. But misfortune would reign over the family as Edward passed away at 14 years of age from sickness. Their daughter would be married off at 17 two years later. This left the young Robert alone to be raised by his mother, before his father passed on March 18th, 1915 from sickness.
Robert Bishop Weyland (1901-1961)
Robert Bishop Weyland was born to David and Alice Weyland on February 4th, 1901, in West Virginia. As the youngest child, Robert experienced a great deal of challenges and disfavor, particularly with regards to his father's apparent favoritism towards his older brother Edward, and by the time his brother had passed and his sister had left, he expected to receive a greater degree of attention. But he found himself disappointed as his father too would pass too soon, and failing to connect with his mother.
He found himself fighting hard to make progress in life, and later in life would find himself in the position of starting a satellite mapping company, Weyland SATvision. Eventually he met his soon-to-be wife Dorothy Sanders, and on August 13th, 1940, their only child was born, named Charles Bishop Weyland. His wife would pass away when young Charles was only two years old, but Robert himself was not inclined towards taking on the parenting role, resulting in him hiring one nanny after another to care for his son during his upbringing. Robert passed away on June 13th, 1961.
Charles Bishop Weyland (1940-2004)
Charles Bishop Weyland was born to Robert and Dorothy Weyland on August 13th, 1940, in New York. Weyland's mother passed away when he was just two years old, leaving him to be raised by his harsh father and a succession of nannies.
His father's harsh and distant nature became a motivator for the young Charles to pursue his own greatness in the engineering field, with the eventual goal of surpassing his father's success and ambition. At the age of just 21, he graduated from Harvard with an MBA degree, and following his father's death, he inherited the family's satellite mapping company, Weyland SATvision, becoming its new Chief Executive Officer.
Under the young Weyland's supervision, the family business grew to be the largest satellite systems operation in the world within a decade, rebranding the company to become Weyland Industries on October 10th, 1972. During this period of rapid growth, Weyland acquired numerous other telecommunications enterprises, including a Midwest cable franchise and a telecom grid based in Nevada. Weyland's keen business sense also led him to diversify into other areas, and Weyland Industries began buying a string of hotels around the world, culminating with the construction of a casino complex in Las Vegas.
The company also became involved in the development of cutting-edge robotics, nanotechnology and medical acoustics. He had particularly hoped to produce a line of artificial persons in his own likeness who would serve for the good of other people. By August 21st, 1989, the great development and expansion of the company had led to the founding of a mother company, the eponymous Weyland Corporation, in which Weyland Industries would come to serve as a subsidiary with more focused goals.
Charles would eventually go on to marry Eleonor Anderson, whom he would affectionately refer to as Ellie, and on October 1st, 1990, gave birth to a son named Peter Bishop Weyland. However, although he viewed and treated his family in a very endearing manner, it was ultimately the dedication to his company that got the better of him.
In 2004, Weyland notably featured in an issue of Scientific American that labelled him the "pioneer of modern robotics", and he was considered the foremost financial supporter of cutting-edge scientific research in the world. Weyland's plans for pushing the boundaries of human endeavor did not stop there, however, and he intended to establish mankind's first lunar base in the Sea of Tranquillity within 40 years.
Unfortunately, Weyland's huge business success was offset by personal misfortune when he was diagnosed with terminal bronchogenic carcinoma, or lung cancer, and owing to his status as the figurehead of Weyland Industries, Weyland concealed this illness from the public. This provided him with a mortal awareness and desperate motivation to achieve some sense of immortality.
On October 3rd, 2004, Weyland Industries Satellite PS12 detected a heat bloom beneath the Antarctic island of Bouvetøya (Bouvet Island), revealing an ancient pyramid complex buried deep beneath the ice. Weyland immediately began assembling an expedition to investigate the discovery, employing Max Stafford to organize the recruitment of the necessary outside experts in light of his own poor health. Unknown to the majority of the expedition members, Stafford was also hired to provide expedition security against any other interested corporations they may encounter, in the form of his private military team. The recruited expedition members were briefed by Weyland himself aboard the icebreaker Piper Maru, pushing its way through the Antarctic ice towards Bouvet Island.
When the team arrived at the Razorback Point Whaling Station, the expedition's guide, Alexa Woods, learned of Weyland's illness. She confronted him regarding the dangers of his continuing, but he rebuked her, pointing out that the success of the expedition was key to preserving both his own legacy and that of his company. Somewhat placated, Alexa allowed Weyland to accompany the team sent down to the pyramid below the station. During the descent, a malfunction in the winch assembly used to lower the team almost caused Weyland to fall to his death, but Alexa's quick thinking saved his life.
Arriving at the pyramid deep under the ice, Weyland considered his dream of claiming a scientific find for the ages to have finally been realized. He accompanied the research team as they began their exploration of the interior, splitting the group in two so that they could cover more ground. When the team discovered Xenopredator plasmacasters inside a sarcophagus within the structure, Weyland ordered Stafford to recover them for further study, against the protests of Dr. Miller and the other experts. Consequently, the team triggered periodic shifting of the pyramid's internal structures, activating a mechanism that caused several team members to become victims of Xenomorphs, and also made themselves targets for a hunting party of Xenopredators, having arrived at the site for a ritual initiation.
The majority of the exploration team was killed in short order. In spite of all the chaos, Weyland remained steadfast in his determination to escape the pyramid with the Xenopredator technology they had discovered, thereby securing his place in history. However, as he fled the carnage with Alexa and Sebastian, the two other survivors, he realized that his illness was slowing them down, and so implored them to leave him behind, giving them time to escape the pursuing Xenopredator, which would go on to end his life.
The remaining Piper Maru crew noticed Weyland's team never returned, subsequently dispatching a rescue team to the location, discovering Woods to be the sole survivor. Woods was eventually brought in for interrogation by company representatives, including OLWF and Project Stargazer operatives who confiscated alien artifacts in her possession, threatening her to sign a non-disclosure agreement. In the wake of Weyland's death, the share prices fell and the company spiraled into disarray and collapse.
Peter Bishop Weyland (1990-2093)
Peter Bishop Weyland was born to Charles and Eleonor Weyland on October 1st, 1990, in Mumbai, India, during a business trip. His relationship with Charles was notably strained and negatively affected by Charles' commitment to his company's future over his family.
Peter recognized Charles being a loving father, whenever they actually had time to spend together, but the increasing distance between father and son bred a certain degree of resentment in young Peter. The fear of lacking the connection and meaning to his life that his father could have offered, the fear of ending up as "nothing", became a motivator for Peter to exceed his father and aspire to become a king, or "god" rather, of his own. Not merely setting the target on the metaphorical, but a literal immortality.
His father's suffering from lung cancer during his simultaneous desperate ventures for eternal life had not gone unnoticed by the young Peter, and fearing a similar fate, at the age of 14 on October 1st, 2004, Peter was granted a method patent for a synthetic trachea, constructed entirely of synthetically-engineered stem cells, for the intended purpose of curing lung cancer. This constituted his twelfth registered patent to date.
On October 11, 2012, eight years following Charles' untimely departure and the collapse of the company, Peter Weyland revived and in a retroactive manner proclaimed himself as the founder of Weyland Corporation, continuing to advance Weyland Industries, attempting a rebrand to supersede his father and his failures. All the while bringing his father's failed aspirations for the company to fruition, including making a mark on history by establishing a base on the Moon in the Sea of Tranquility, just as his father had initially planned but could only see realized 40 years into the future.
On January 7th, 2025, Weyland manufactures the first advanced android prototype model of its kind, affectionately called David 1, a name Peter had initially reserved for his own human son, in honor of his great grandfather and inspired by King David. It was through David, his "son", that Peter found a way to channel his angst towards his own father.
On July 29th, 2030, Peter would engage in business deals with Borgia Industries, gaining access to their advanced androids and adapting their MOTHER computer system for use in his own vessels and spaceships.
Michael Bishop Weyland (2127-2194)
Michael Bishop Weyland was born on May 5th, 2127, through an artificial womb at a Weyland-Yutani facility in New York, cloned from the preserved genetic material of the late Charles Weyland, in accordance with internal documents revealing his expressed wish that he be resurrected, under the future circumstances that his line of biological descendants had ended, in order to fulfill his desire for immortality and for the advancement of the human race.
This wish coincided with the Company finding themselves in a position of lacking an image and clear trajectory for the future, in the absence of both Peter Weyland and Hideo Yutani, motivating them to look back to the past successes notably driven by Charles Weyland, the original founder of the Company.
Michael Weyland, who came to be dubbed Michael Bishop on account of him identifying as a distinct person from the original Charles Weyland, would in turn go on to develop the Lance Bishop series of androids in his own image.
By 2179, he was catapulted to Director of Special Projects for the Weyland-Yutani Bio-Weapons R&D Division, and as such became involved in the study of the Xenomorph species. Following the Xenomorph outbreak at Hadley's Hope on LV-426, he was dispatched to the moon to investigate what had happened at the colony, his ultimate goal being the successful acquisition of a Xenomorph specimen, apparently at any cost. Weyland-Yutani PMCs under his command were notably responsible for the failed attempt at capturing Dwayne Hicks aboard the USS Sulaco.
Having suffered severe head trauma on Fiorina 161, he received extensive corrective surgery and cybernetic implants to repair the damage to his skull. However, he became dependent on highly addictive painkillers because of severe migraine and red-outs that doctors were unable to control. Since then he still operated on the Frontier, his ship has been seen making several transit runs between the Frontier and Anchorpoint Station, looking for any Xenomorph materials to weaponize. He also sent "Dog Catcher" Commandos and science teams to explore the Frontier in search of Xenomorph hive worlds and archaeological ruins belonging to other alien races, with the hope of still acquiring viable alien specimens.
Eventually by 2184, motivated by the increased awareness of his mortality, akin to his predecessor Charles, he developed a limited amount of a more advanced android series intended as his own personal descendant and superior replacement, named Karl Bishop Weyland, infused with Michael's own mind, memories, knowledge and aspirations. In 2194, Michael Weyland passed away during surgery from complications relating to his nature as a clone.
Karl Bishop Weyland (2184-2290)
Karl Bishop Weyland, a line of advanced androids, was activated on August 13th, 2184, designed by Michael Weyland and infused with his own mindset and memories. During the 2180's and 2190's, the Karl Weyland androids would explore a multitude of celestial bodies, including the planet BG-386 until the 2212 collapse of the Weyland-Yutani facilities in the location and the deactivation of the local Karl Weyland android in charge.
However, the information gathered from the site revealed the location of the suspected homeworld of the Xenomorphs, the planet G-435 (also known by the names "Hiveworld", "Achilles 2.4", or "Xeno Prime") orbiting the star AR-32 Vista, as well as the location of the homeworld of the Xenopredators, the planet U-478 (also known as "Yautja Prime") orbiting the two stars Icarus Prime and Icarus Minor.
Five years later, after the proper preparations, one Karl Weyland aboard the USS Elyon would travel to G-435 while another Karl Weyland aboard the USS Ares U-478. Some years after that, being part of Karl Weyland's collective game plan, in 2219, the USCSS Geryon would be sent out to complete the failed mission of the USCSS Prometheus, and in 2220, the USS Hasdrubal would be sent out to Tartarus to acquire the spaceship and technological artifacts of an alien race.
These efforts yielded results as both Xenomorph and Xenopredator specimens were returned back to Earth for study by Karl Weyland and General Bush of the United States Marine Corps, leading to a Xenomorph outbreak on global scale and three distinct episodes of intense conflicts, with aggravated Xenopredators in the mix, spanning multiple decades between the 2220's and 2290's. The last of the Karl Weyland androids would end up being destroyed by Major Dutch Schaefer (who had been kept alive thanks to bonding himself with Xenopredator DNA and eventually put into hypersleep) and Lieutenant Linn Kurosawa in 2290.
These events would set off a chain reaction leading to the downfall of the entire Weyland-Yutani Corporation over the following decades, never being able to recover from the public outrage over their near destruction of planet Earth and humanity. A variety of rival companies and the United Systems Military would soon take charge in their absence.
The Yutani Family
The following chronicles the family behind the Yutani Corporation.
John Yutani (1947-2002)
John Yutani was born to Haruki and Sophia Yutani on November 5th, 1947. At the age of 28, he became the founder of Yutani Incorporated. John notably co-operated with and funded the CIA's Other Worldly Life Forms (OWLF) program in studying and attempting to capture Xenopredator specimens and technology, continually seeking to out-compete and secretly monitor the rivaling Weyland Corporation and its CEO Charles Weyland.
He eventually married Ayuko Tanaka, giving birth to two children, an older daughter named Cullen Kayoko Yutani, and a younger son named Anthony Elon Yutani. He passed away from cancer on July 15th, 2002, leaving the company to his daughter.
Cullen Kayoko Yutani (1972-2068)
Cullen Kayoko Yutani was born to John and Ayuko Yutani on December 25th, 1972. She would go on to become the Chief Executive Officer of Yutani Incorporated following her father's death, which by September 14th, 2015, led to her expanding the scope of the company and subsequently founding the Yutani Corporation. She quickly adopted her father's dedication towards the OWLF, and following the program's closure in 2003 due to budget issues, she became a founding member of its replacement Project Stargazer, taking an active role in the program and hiring most of the laid off staff from its predecessor as well as recruits from other cancelled agencies. She would on occasion receive intel from Major Dutch Schaefer on potential Xenopredator hot spots for her Stargazer operatives to investigate.
Her efforts would eventually lead to the acquisition of alien materials such as those recovered by Colonel William Stevens from the sole survivor of Weyland's infamous Antarctica expedition and the survivors of the incident in Gunnison, Colorado. Later, an additional major batch of alien materials and Xenopredator specimens would be acquired during a 2018 conflict, including a complete spaceship and various advanced equipment.
Away from the public eye, these events lead to the development of new technologies, such as major milestones in the development of faster-than-light drives and plasma weapons, which would come to be shared with Weyland Corporation on account of the up-and-coming Peter Weyland taking great interest in OWLF and Project Stargazer. In 2025, Major Schaefer would partake in a first-of-its-kind risk-filled experiment led by Sean Keyes and Cullen Yutani in which his DNA would be mixed together with the DNA of a Xenopredator, the result of which was a seeming success, greatly increasing his health and life expectancy.
Inevitably, these secret collaborative efforts would lead to an increasingly developing partnership between Weyland and Yutani in these pursuits, which also brought the occasional conflict of interest. Notably, on December 12, 2029, Yutani filed a lawsuit against Weyland over a patent dispute with the David series, which Weyland won years later. Also, in 2030, Yutani was competing with Weyland for exclusive business deals with Borgia Industries.
Owing to her dedication to the company, Cullen considered the prospect of dating and marriage unreasonable, but still desired to provide an heir to the company, and at age 49 she resorted to artificial insemination and eventually gave birth to a son whom she named Hideo John Yutani. She passed away on June 18th, 2068.
Hideo John Yutani (2021-2168)
Hideo Yutani was born to Cullen Yutani, through artificial insemination, on January 7th, 2021. He married Yukiko Akiyama and would go on to conceive two daughters, the elder sibling Chiyo Yutani, and the younger Jenny Yutani born two years later. He was disciplined when it came to maintaining his health and engaging in sports, with a particular interest for watching sumo wrestling, though he preferred the sport before robot wrestlers became the norm.
In 2099, following the collapse of Weyland Corporation following the loss of the infamous USCSS Prometheus mission in 2093, Hideo Yutani successfully acquired Weyland's assets, effectively ending competition with other bidders, such as the Chinese conglomerate Jùtóu Combine. However, one of the previous bidders, Templin Corporation, would end up offering themselves to be bought up by Hideo, giving rise to the Yutani-Templin subsidiary.Given his new power as CEO over the newly formed Weyland-Yutani Corporation, Hideo sought to prioritize the expansion of space exploration and colonization, with a particular focus on acquisition of Xenopredator technology as well as Xenomorph specimens. Although advances in health and medicine had allowed him to live to a greater than expected age (in part thanks to the advances of OWLF and Project Stargazer in studying the applications of Xenopredator DNA), he would eventually pass away on February 14th, 2145.
Chiyo Yutani (2085-2220)
Chiyo Yutani was born to Hideo and Yukiko Yutani on April 3rd, 2079. After the formation of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, she would go on to serve in an Executive position together with her father, before taking over as CEO following his passing, with Naoko Yutani, her second cousin, serving as her representative and advisor. She would herself attempt to acquire a Xenomorph specimen from the Renegade XM extremist group on LV-426, without success. Chiyo passed away on November 15th, 2220, together with her sister Jenny following a hostile encounter with eco-terrorists carrying stolen Xenopredator technology from a broken-into Yutani-Templin facility.
