After careful examination, it appears that Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Prometheus (2012) are indeed designed in a manner that they can essentially be described as the same movie, and a similar case can indeed be made for Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007) and Alien: Covenant (2017). It certainly makes you wonder if Ridley Scott and company were inspired by Paul Anderson and the team behind the AVP films, so much so that he felt he needed to rip them off, or perhaps somebody on the crew made sure these aspects were included. Although these similarities are almost certainly coincidental, at the same time it's suspiciously incredible. Details and various other aspects vary of course but it's still rather strange and fans quickly picked up on it.
